| Back to college: Bricklaying students Stuart Hasley and Patrina Hosier with shadow cabinet minister David Willetts |
Shadow cabinet member David Willetts visited West Thames College this week to sample life at one of London's most successful further education providers.
The shadow minister of state for innovation, universities and skills was accompanied by Mary Macleod, the Brentford and Isleworth Conservative parliamentary candidate, along with local councillors Lin Davies, Mark Bowen, and Barbara Reid.
During his visit, Mr Willetts was taken on a tour of the Isleworth campus by college principal Thalia Marriot.
The Conservative MP was introduced to students and staff across the site, including those at the college's industry standard hairdressing and beauty therapy facilities. He then headed to the Feltham Skills Centre to gain first-hand experience of some of the vocational courses on offer.
After touring the site's catering, painting and decorating and plumbing facilities, Mr Willetts was given a lesson in bricklaying from two local students. Petrina Hosier from Hounslow and Stuart Hasley from Feltham chatted with the MP about the skills they had learned on the bricklaying course at the skills centre
before offering him a quick
tutorial in mortar laying.
Mr Willetts completed his tour by visiting the Hounslow Borough Youth Service, based on the Boundaries Road campus.
Mr Willetts said: "We support West Thames Colleges' efforts to spread opportunity more widely."
